What you’re about to read are true stories from past clients who, just like you, had a child with CHD and were overwhelmed with all that comes with having a sick child. With the right guidance and support, they were able to make small changes that brought peace, confidence and perspective to their child's care. I couldn’t be more excited to share their experiences with you below.
Each week, Molly has given me practical things to help me adjust to my new normal. For example, she encouraged me to talk with our transplant team about clustering his meds so they would be more manageable at home. She also encouraged me to continue making time to spend with my husband. Given her background with CHD, she is incredibly knowledgeable and able to provide support to moms at all stages, whether you are waiting for a transplant, about to have open heart surgery, or pregnant with a baby with a heart defect. Molly is so easy to talk to and it is evident she cares so deeply about her clients.

Molly's insight proved to be extremely helpful in at least exploring what that might look like in 6-9 months. Her experience also helped as we walked a NICU-stay road with all the challenges of feeding and low muscle tone. There were situations she knew to expect that I could mentally prepare for and also helped me with next questions to ask as his progress continued. Two of the most important topics we discussed were anxiety and fear and how they show up in daily life. For someone unaware, these can wreak havoc on a marriage and mental health.

My daughter would undergo 6 open heart surgeries in her first 7 months of life. I had no idea how I was going to navigate this whole journey but Molly was there to help every step of the way from hospital rounding understanding, pre and post surgeries, clinic visits, medication management, the list goes on. Her expertise and experience ranges from nursing, cardiac, neurosurgery, transplant, and just plain old parenting advice. Molly would ensure I understood what the doctors were saying, advising, testing, and how to advocate for my daughter. Being inpatient at a hospital for 7 months takes a toll on your mental and emotional health, Molly would always take the time to ensure I was taking care of myself as well. I am privileged to have met Molly and have her on my daughter’s team.

I appreciate that you take every opportunity to get to know us as a family. You ask questions that relate to who we are. You are not trying to generalize our situation, you are trying to personalize it, and I love that. Your outside perspective brought out many thoughts and ways to address somethings that I had not thought of. We were able to move forward in some areas that were at a standstill.

Working with Molly allowed me to process what we were going through and more importantly, prepare for what was ahead. Preparing and imagining what that looks like helps with logistics, expectations, and emotion. I can't say how many times I've seen questions in online platforms that I've said to myself "we covered that already!". While hindsight will be 20/20, I feel like we've covered topics A-Z when it comes to preparing for an open heart surgery for my son. The weekly summary emails and actionable items gave me realistic things to work toward for the following week and topics to talk about with my husband.

Having someone beside you who's walked the road of surgery for your most treasured life is invaluable. You need someone to help you process and whether or not you think you're prepared, you're not. Unless you've been there, you have no idea. The things you'll need to take care of, the emotions that masquerade as other things, the frustration, the logistics and all the in-between are too much to go in blind and not fall apart. Get the help, don't give it a second thought.

During our stay in the intensive care unit (ICU), Emily was the most empowered and reenergized after she met with Molly. Molly was a great resource for our family because she knew what we were going through, and Emily had someone to share her thoughts, concerns, and frustrations regarding life as a medical parent. However, I think it was even more powerful seeing the practical knowledge that Emily gained from these meetings regarding the ICU. I could tell it gave Emily a new sense of confidence and empowerment to advocate for our son in the midst of such difficult times. I’m very grateful to Molly and would recommend any mothers with children in the hospital to meet with her.
